Why it is that the Online Coaching Industry is Broken (And What You Can Do)
You wouldn't believe it I've never had the desire to instruct coaches on the art of coaching. But over the last seven years, I've gotten more involved with this field and have become fairly successful in my work. So naturally, other coaches have wanted to pick my brain to a certain extent.
That's when I started being more attentive to the happenings within this field. The more I researched it I noticed those doing things I didn't think they should do because they weren't going to work. If you've worked in this coaching business for a few years, you've probably figured out what I'm talking about -that the industry of coaching is rife with untrue advice, broken promises and completely fraudulent activities.
Even worse is that there are trainers who are teaching subjects they have no interest in, or even any competence in.
In some respects I'd go so in saying that the industry of coaching is fundamentally flawed .
But there is an upside. There is an opportunity to become an authentically helpful and effective online coach. Just be aware of what you're getting yourself into making sure that you're doing it for the right reason. Let me explain...
Skip ahead here:
- There's a "pyramid scheme" in online coaching
- Stay clear of giving coaching to coaches who are not yours
- The reason you should coach from the place that is authentic
- It's time to become the online coach you'd like to be.

There's a "pyramid scheme" in online coaching
You see all the ads all the time on places such as YouTube and Instagram and Snapchat, but not anymore. Once you've reached certain milestones in the coaching industry or bump through a problem, they appear like little pesky insects on your social media feeds. "Are you a professional who's finding it difficult to find clients? The only thing you'll need to do is to follow my proven method !"
I used to sit at a distance and become annoyed by the aforementioned issues. However, now I'm able to accept these as the price we pay as part of an unregulated industry. Since the sector isn't regulated, there is no consensus about how to succeed. It's the reason behind this industry's brokenness as it becomes increasingly challenging for competent, skilled individuals to be successful.
It's not something we see in other industries. In all likelihood, there's not a person on the market selling a program on how to be a lawyer in just 30 days. Or how to get through medical school without having to pass any pesky tests. It would be absurd isn't it? There's an accepted way to be a lawyer, a doctor or a teach or a therapist or any many other licensed professions. There are no shortcuts. And you certainly don't see any ads promising: "Seven Easy Steps to Start Your First Patient On the Operating Table for Brain Surgeons(tm)."
But the coaching industry is full of these types of promisesand prayers for the desperation of people. It's mostly about the best way to train coaches on this, or how to instruct coaches to do this. The primary client will be... you guessed it... coaches. Coaches are the ones buying how to succeed, and probably taking a significant amount of revenue for the coaching industry.
Now don't get me off-base -- this is acceptable if you're a enthusiasm for marketing and are adept at teaching the things coaches want. If this is what you're most passionate about, then it's perfectly fine to be teaching only people your area of interest.
Most individuals aren't particularly skilled or passionate about that. It's not what they really would like to impart to others -yet they think it's all they're capable of achieving.
So what happens? Coaching professionals alter their character in order to achieve their goals. In the absence of the moral argument about whether this is right or wrong it still causes a big problem. Because the only thing that matters in order to be successful I believe that it is align.
Beware of the trap of teaching other coaches
When I talk about alignment, I mean you need to discover what area of coaching aligns with your lessons acquired in your daily life. Each of us as a human being has learned a lot from our upbringing. They are lessons were learned, and then used to conquer the obstacles in our lives. It could be financial lesson and career-related lessons or even relationship lessons.
The lessons you learned from your life are worth it to somebody out there, meaning they will literally be willing to pay for your insight as well as what you have discovered. The significance of that in terms of business is that your life lessons can be a valuable product.
So, now the issue is: how do create a company that is able to incorporate all your individual skills and strengths and challenges and doesn't make you do activities you'd rather not to do? Since you do not intend to lose your focus on the lessons of life and fall into the trap of only teaching other coaches how to succeed as a coach.
Imagine the situation this way: if you teach from your personal experiences, that's what clients find valuable. If you only teach others the best ways to be a coach, that's the information that clients find valuable.
If this is the case, then you're "secret ingredient" does not matter. It means your life lessons don't matter. This means that your personality doesn't matter -- it's interchangeable. It's like you're an item. Because the most important thing is the people who purchase this data. This is why it's important to know is that if you can't succeed with the recipe that you do not have any significance, you won't be happy or fulfilled and feel any satisfaction from your work since there's no reason to be.
Start with the knowledge that you have value. Your life lessons have value. This isn't something you learned through a different program or coach It's your own knowledge and understanding of reality.
What is the reason to coach from a position of authenticity
If it's true that the "guaranteed universally-applied" approach is effective for you, it's still based upon inauthenticity. That's among the main reasons a lot people do not like selling, or are afraid to do so. This is the reason why most sales tactics feel icky. (Which is the name of a scientific term.) The reason isn't because of the tactics themselves, it's because you're they are not connected with your authentic self. or the belief in your core that you've earned your worth.
Let's take an example. you get a sales pitch for a pitch to prospective customers. If you don't fully believe in what you're offering someone, you don't care the author of the script or even if they've made one million dollars with the script. It doesn't matter what comes out of your mouth , because your body is telling another story. People are aware of the fact that they're selling something which you've never had the pleasure of purchasing!
It is the reason authenticity is so important in selling the work that you are doing. You can get the alignment that we've discussed, and truly find your voice in the message. If you're using the same sales strategy, you'll be more successful since you'll come from a solid source.
The issue is not what words come from our mouths. If I'm confident about the item I'm selling, due to the transformative benefit of this product, consequently, you are able to provide me with any sales strategy. I'm certain that my confidence will sell it, and my advocacy for you is going to pierce your objections.
It's the energy that people generally buy -- not the merchandise. This is your confidence, not the sales techniques or marketing funnels.
It's time to become the type of online coach you'd like to be.
I am sure that for some people this will be a challenge. You'll probably bump up against various fears, worries, and insecurities along the way. The main issue is, do you have the desire to change the world? Are you determined to succeed by applying your life lessons? Do you have the desire to aid others by having the right attitude? If you do, then you'll be more likely to succeed.
Whatever you do, please not be a jerk by taking away the primary ingredient in the procedure. Do not just aim to earn money, make a commitment to make the world a better place.
