"I believe the most efficient way to explain how I got here is by describing one person at a or one video at a time." are comedians and the creator Kevin Fredericks - better known by his online name KevOnStage. Kev talks in his office as well as his studio in Los Angeles, the epicenter of his most significant creative venture so far: KevOnStage Studios. However, the creator of digital media didn't land Hollywood-level production digs in a matter of hours. Kev's grew from an occasional side job to a full-time career over nearly a decade in the online grind.

"Before the path of a comic was to move into L.A., get on the Tonight Show, and attempt to persuade an agent," he says. "Now because of the expansion of the internet , it's possible to get an audience that you can own and turn yourself into the world's most famous." Since 2011 KevOnStage has gradually but surely built up more than 1M of Instagram followers , and over 800K YouTube users, through providing candid comedy to his loyal online followers who affectionately call him"the Stage Crew.

"I believe that charting your own path, in my opinion, is essential," adds Kev. "Right right now, I'm trying to put together my own show which I designed and directed and funded which no one from Hollywood needed to accept. I'm in a position to create everything and show it direct to my audience."

Learn the ropes

Kev has been working on building his online community over 10 years ago, however Kev says that things took a while to take off. "I haven't seen any results with the website name KevOnStage until probably 2017," says Kev. "Before that, I was working very hard and not getting many views as many other artists do."

At that time, he had to find his ultimate north star in creating content which was true to his personality as well as his own sensibilities. "When individuals don't work from their core, the results are exhausting" states Kev. "I have always been content not blowing up every now and then however I did manage to produce content that I enjoyed. Because of that, I've experienced more success in place of trying to do work."

In the beginning, as his popularity was growing in a rapid manner, Kev took to touring all over the United States with other comics however, the pandemic caused the live events to come to a standstill. Keen to find innovative ways to keep the momentum that his brother Kev approached him with a new idea that was streaming.

Reclaiming the power

Kev was the very first to admit the fact that the idea of an OTT service wasn't not in his plans as the next stage in the business. "We started out with the idea of making films on our own, but my brother suggested"I've found a way we could be able to do it happen with our own platform,"" Kev says. "I did not consider this as an option."

Kev spoke to business associate Producer Brennon Edwards. He offered to collaborate on the idea of creating one OTT application. "It was an obvious choice," says Brennon, who now serves as President of KevOnStage Studios, because it gave them the ability to produce (and make money from) their content in accordance with their own guidelines. "We live in an age in which the barriers to access to the ability to create art is significantly smaller. The game has been changed."

"We have been able to go above what we were thinking Hollywood to provide for us and instead , take on the task ourselves," he says. "We work directly with our fans, and that's what has. They're the ones that give us the cash that allows us to design whatever we like. They allow us to continue to innovate, and we are creators."

 Empowering fellow creators

Since the beginning of KOSS Brennon Kev and Co-Founder and co-CEO Melissa Fredericks have consciously created an environment that is supportive and inspiring that encourages other Black creators to try their work. "I just am grateful for this space and the fact the fact that people are that work in this space, and that they are in a position to achieve their goals in KOSS," says Kev.

The beautiful thing about this particular adventure is that it takes us beyond the conventional wisdom of Hollywood recommends, and taking matters in our own direction," adds Melissa. "We're exerting influence over our neighbors. We're not waiting for Hollywood to be able to influence us to get the apron that represents your success. It's time to make this decision ourselves. Period. It's something we're able to manage by ourselves. Period. Additionally, we are able to provide people with opportunities they could not get. Period."
