In the beginning of her journey she was seeking the most efficient way to care with her family, as well as find time to do her work. Discover the methods by that the change to an online subscription can bring Rebecca success in her business and the peace of mind she was looking for.

The reason you decided to join the world of knowledge-based commerce?

The beginning of my quilting career began when I published my first book Modern Rainbow Quilts. From there, I began traveling to give classes at guilds and quilt shows across all over the United States. My teaching continued to expand my workshops with the release of my 2nd book, Contemporary Triangle Quilts.

Then, my husband got his new job and moved our entire family of four children of school age over into the Netherlands. The fact that we were located in the Netherlands prevented us from being able to travel back to the US to see the school!

I had thought about the idea of offering my workshop on the internet. This change, however, gave me the boost I had been looking for.

What was the initial digital product you introduced? Why did you chose it?

At the time I started my journey my journey, I decided to launch with a class that I taught from my Contemporary Triangle Quilts book "Design Improv with Triangles". In the workshop, I teach the class through a series of interactive tasks that ultimately lead to creating their own Modern Triangle quilt blocks. This class was chosen due to the fact that it was the very first time that I given my most recent book and I was able to be able to see just how in depth the online course could be compared to a 6-hour or 3-hour live workshop. (See my Equilateral Sampler quilt, which appears on display in Rockport, Mass.)

Can you give further details about the outcome from your workshop that you purchased in a one-time purchase?

I really enjoyed the whole experience of digital for my students. First, I was pleasantly amazed. It was an experience that was truly inspiring because I really was enjoying working with cameras and using Zoom. It's hard to overstate the degree that I was (painfully!) photographer shy that I used to be. Yet, the moment I stepped up to help my students was so rewarding. Furthermore, I got to meet the students and get to meet each other, even though we were not physically present. The experience was wonderful!

Therefore, I thought of offering further online courses, which began with a calendar for the year. We quilt and refer to these "Blocks from the Months": each month we create an entirely new quilt block and then at the close of the year we join each block to make a complete quilt. Woohoo! (See Rainbow Remix, my BOM for 2018.)

What inspired you to offer a subscription based product?

As my catalog of "Block of the Month" programs grew from 3 to four, I realized I could offer my students the best value and help by housing all of my "Modern Triangle" projects in one membership. So, during the month of March, 2020, I officially opened my doors into"Make Modern Triangles," the "Make Modern Triangles" Official club for helping quilters make, design and then finish blocks that are blockbuster modern triangle quilts.

In the club members are given the option of deciding on the exact quilt they'd prefer to make. They also get my guidance and advice, and stay inspired to "bust those blocks" through working in an online community of quilters from all over the world. The "Triangle Chatter" community is an absolute delight! Each day I am blown away over by the work and progress photos uploaded by our users.

What was the way your customers react to your service?

     Favorably, I'd say!

These Block of the Month products are such fun programs to create for me as an teacher. But, what I love about the entire experience is that it can be truly part of the group The excitement of the next stage and the anticipation of watching blocks grow; the commiseration whenever something doesn't go as planned and the joy of finishing every step and then the joy of saying "ta Ta!" together! The whole experience is amazing and is a part of our bond together as a team.

What have you learned about your subscription, which could you use to help your business today?

Oh my. The most valuable lesson I've learned the hard method, was that I perform more than I can handle on my own. Thus, I'm constantly searching for ways to simplify.

When I started my business, one of my primary objectives was that I would be capable of contributing to household support, and not having to look for an "real" work. I started as my four children were infants with the hopes to increase my earnings so that it would be similar to the income of a "real" occupation.

I had been looking to begin an enterprise where I would devote about 25percent of my time at the computer, while spending the remainder of my time working in my sewing space.

But as a creative person with a passion for teaching, I'd become distracted with the idea of taking every quilt I made and then making a brand new item that was based on it. You can imagine that this gave me lots of work to do! The result was that I had to leave my sewing space and from the goals I had set.

To keep things basic, I am focussing (mostly!) on my membership. I've whittled it all to one service.

What effects did the introduction of a subscription-based product have in your business?

In focusing and simplifying my method of developing of my members, my revenue has increased by 50% over the past three years (thanks for the delicious tasty, sweet stats!). I've met my goal of creating a company that can be able to provide for my family, and one where I'm no longer dependent on my computer: I'm able to create and make art.

I'm less stressed. I'm satisfied with what I'm providing my customers. I enjoywatching my members' creations. Also, I'm able to spend more time. I'm at ease. Peace of mind frees the clutter in my life. While it's not perfect, I am aware of what I'm creating and how I can improve it, and I am able to see how it will grow and evolve over the next two years.

As a member I am not under any pressure. Most of the time I am aware of the business's revenue annually. It's not like I need to educate myself about what I'm currently creating or a new product that could be sold. My focus is on creating amazing content and connection for my fans, while also creating for myself. Furthermore, I'm in a position to be adept and flexible when it comes to taking care of my beloved ones.

What helped you get those results?

My aim was ever going be simple which has now become a reality. Businesses can easily online to become complex within a matter of minutes. It's an opportunity to simplify things, and I'm here to assist you. Everything I need is contained within, with the exception of the other tools (from the past, that I didn't use ) I have a strict use of.

What tips would you give anyone else looking to begin a subscription-based business?

It is recommended that you work hard on your "Beta" version, and change it to "Beta" for more duration than you think you need to. I wished I'd kept mine in beta mode longer. When you're in beta mode, find what works, do more of this. Put in the time to polish and optimizing what's working. Be simple, and remain focused on simplicity. Get the first beta you have today. the longer you sit, the more complicated the process becomes!
