The latest: US Court warns Google It's a big change that is imperative to Illegal play Store Monopoly
U.S. District Judge James Donato has issued a cautionary note to Google that major changes may be imposed on the Android application store, following an appeals court's ruling that the Play Store operates as an illegal monopoly.
The Associated Press reports that Judge Donato has indicated that he might demand Google to permit alternative stores for apps for Android devices, a move designed to lessen Google's power in app distribution as well as the cost of charging its platform. The monopoly that Google has "nearly all dominance" generates billions annually for Google however, the verdict by the court may alter the situation, with Google anticipating costs which could be as high as 600 millions of dollars.
Google is worried about the fact that opening up to open the Play Store to third-party app stores could expose users to security threats, leading to what the company refers to as "security disorder. " In spite of these worries, Judge Donato is insisting that there is a need for an overhaul of the entire system and stated "We are going to remove any barriers, and it's likely be happening."
This is part of an overall antitrust effort against Google as well as one of the major issues involving the firm's Google search engine, which is scheduled to be launched in September. The judges are hopeful of granting an order describing the changes that need to be made in Google's Play Store soon, possibly in the days before Labor Day.
An article of The Verge on the same topic is a strong endorsement of Epic Games profiting of these results, and also includes a the article's subtitle which reads "Judge James Donato will issue his final order on what Google will award -- and Epic gets its award in just weeks."
