Apple has revised its App Store's rules in order to ensure that it is in line with the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) however, the charges associated with the changes that were implemented by Apple remain high in accordance with an article in The Verge.

The important changes are explained in six bullet points in Apple's News and Updates page, users are encouraged to read more in depth about the most recent updates on the Developer's Manual.

Some highlights are potential "offers which allow customers to buy items from a location of their preference," developers being able to "use an actionable hyperlink that can be tapped, clicked or even scanned to guide users to the place they want to go," as well as that "Updated the business terms used for apps that use External Purchase Link Entitlement feature is currently developing to be designed to be compatible with the any changes to the features."

The new rules will go into effect "this the autumn" (no date for a different exact time frame is given for the start of the process).

"Nearly an undetermined 20 percent cost for developers'

In the report from The Verge, "Apple has introduced a 20% developer charge in the the most recent EU update" the updates appear to give developers more flexibility with regards to linking to purchase options that aren't available through the Apple App Store.

The costs associated with this feature are so steep and limiting "it's hard to imagine anyone getting a benefit from this program. "

This is because when developers choose to sign up for the StoreKit External Purchase Link Entitlement (EU) Addendum The costs involved include a 5 percent initial acquisition cost along with the 20 percent Store Services charge that is applicable on "sales of digital products and services across any platform for 12 months after the installation was completed which include updates to apps as well as the removal of applications."

The Verge states the fact that apps that are modified or installed by users set timers for the next twelve months to pay an ongoing service fee for the store. There's a myriad of apps and tools that could lower fees through allowing support for different app stores that are a third parties or by charging auto-renewal subscriptions which are eligible for developers or integrated into Apple's small-business plan. The ongoing cost of the 12 month period that resets when updates are made or the app is reinstalled makes charges "endless."

A recent TechCrunch piece that reads "Apple releases updates to DMA App store approval link-outs that have less restrictions, and a new fee structure" further clarifies some of the differences among the various terminology Apple utilizes as well as the charges for them. They were both created recently. There is"Store Service Fee" which will become "Store Service Fee" It is "a $10 commission or 5% discounted commission (e.g. developers who are enrolled in the App Store's Small Business Program) in accordance with the terms of Apple's business. Or 20% standard, or a discount of 7 percent, accordance to the terms of the present agreement that is in place between Apple and."
