What is your background?

"My Name is Sylvia Boomer Yang. I'm an illustrator animator, and GIF artist who is based in Brooklyn, New York. For my professional work I design animations, motion graphics and storyboards for explainers, videos and applications. But what I really enjoy doing as a side project is create fun and unique cartoons and stickers that make people smile, and allow them to be themselves."

"I have a family in Taiwan and was enrolled in the fine arts school as a child. I've always loved drawing, however, I was eventually stifled by a very traditional education way of life. I felt that I could not express my personal style and personality using the conventional techniques that art uses. Learning about fine art has certainly helped me establish the base for where I am today."

"I switched to design in college and moved to New York for grad school. It was then that I began to experiment with animations and digital art. Animation gave me the ability to blend illustrations and motion in order to tell stories through a fluid way. I really enjoyed exploring how to transform still images into motion."

What are the most important factors in creating your animation images?

"I love to work with an empathetic sense and powerful emotions that make people feel at ease, while playing with different mediums and creating a unique style of design. Designing can be really fun!"

"Collaboration/teamwork is one of the keys I evaluate a lot. I like how individuals spark ideas together in the team. I also think that good work typically is created by a team of people with diverse strengths and skills.

In daily life, I'm not going to stop making items that inspire me. When not designing, or creating motion-based graphics, I'll be seen making a chaos in my kitchen (lots cook!) as well as making craft projects. I frequently visit Brooklyn market and try my hand on various food items at home. The world is full of magical things, I love to travel and explore diverse communities, cultures and innovative artwork."
