Mixed media artist - The CreativeMindClass Blog
"Let's begin with the words that most accurately describe me: strong as well as expressive, and rich."

Claudia's personal background
"My Name"is Claudia Melchor, I am officially trained in architecture, however, I've had a passion for painting and the 2D mediums since I can remember."

How did you transfer the concept of architecture into mixed-media images?
"When it came time to make a decision about my career, I was told, as numerous others, to not go after a career in art. and I was adamant. Fast forward a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Architecture and being utterly bored of the work in the front of a computer. In my time off following university, I began creating illustrations, artworks and other products that featured my design on them and I've never been happier!
It all took off right when I was offered a position in an architectural office which I am now working on alongside my illustration work and ongoing studies in the field of art and history. I am hoping that I can quit the job in corporate architecture in the near future and focus fully on the art I love and using mixed-media techniques.

I'm hoping that my experience will help individuals who aren't sure which subject to pursue to understand that a degree in art is not important, you are an artist regardless of no background. The best thing is, this will create a unique art. Naturally, attending an art college must be a fantastic experience as well!"

What is the style of your illustrations?
"I consider that the process of describing your style is something extremely difficult. I asked my buddies about this and their descriptions of it could not be more exact. The way they described my work is as if everything I paint appears moving like the wind is blowing across the painting and dropping color all the things it touches. There is no better way to describe the effect honestly.
I like layering textures and exploring a variety of colors. I'm an extremeist in this sense. The more difficult I attempt to limit a palette of colors and the more expansive the range of colors becomes.

When we take a look at my subjects selections, the things I love to draw are landscapes that feature mountains and oceans because it brings me back to my home town of Tenerife is a charming little island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.
But I will also draw human-like figures with exaggerated features and colorful skin. Of the course, I include an architectural component - those architectural studies that I completed over the course of six years have to show up somewhere."

What are the most important factors to making your mixed-media illustrations?
"I think that the most important thing for me to create my work is not planning ahead too much. To be fair, this approach can be successful however it is not always successful However, not being over the end result allows you to be free to play around with your painting.
I like seeing the process of coloring and painting and changing my mind when I finish my work. This shows the relationship I have with the paper, my surroundings, as well as to my painting. You will see my process of decision-making in the finished result.

I love being able to work with my hands to mix up my own paints. All you require to create my work is lots of various materials (doesn't require anything fancy, but I do enjoy mixing mediums), a very loose hand and a willingness to mix paints and to start at the beginning."
