"Let's begin by defining the adjectives to most accurately describe me: bold, expressive and layered."

How did you transition from architecture to mixed-media illustrations?

"When the moment came to choose the career path I was told, as other people, not to go after a career in art. And I listened. After completing a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Architecture and being utterly dissatisfied with my work behind the computer. In my time off after university, I started to create illustrations, paintings as well as products that had my own designs, which made me feel more content!

The whole thing took off when I was offered a position in an architecture office, which I am now working on alongside my illustration work and recent studies in art historical studies. I hope to be able to drop the job in corporate architecture in the near future and focus fully on what I enjoy doing and using mixed-media techniques.

I'm hoping that my experience will help those who are unsure of what to study to realize that the art degree is not important, you are an artist regardless of every background. And the most important aspect is that it will make your art more unique. Naturally, attending an art college will be an amazing experience as well!"

How would you describe the style of your illustrations?

"I believe that describing your personal style can be a challenge. I was forced to talk to my friends about this one, and how they described it couldn't be more accurate. My art appears as if everything I paint appears in movement like the wind is blowing through the painting , and then dropping colors onto everything it comes into contact with. There is no better description of the effect honestly.

I enjoy layering textures and playing with lots of colors. I'm a maximalist in that sense. The more difficult I attempt to restrict a color palette and the more expansive the color range gets.

In a glance at my subjects selections, the things I love to paint are landscapes containing mountains and the ocean, as it reminds me of my home town of Tenerife which is a small, charming island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

In addition, I sketch human figures, with exaggerated features and colorful skin. And of course, I always include an architectural component - those architectural studies that I completed over the course of six years must be represented somewhere."

What are the most important factors in creating your mixed-media illustration?

"I consider that the secret in my art is not to plan too much beforehand. It's fair to say that this approach can be successful however it is not always successful however, not worrying over the end result allows you to be free to explore your art.

I like seeing the process of coloring and painting , and of changing my mind in my final pieces. It shows my relationship to the paper, to my environment, and also to my painting. You will see my process of decision-making in the finished product.

I enjoy being able get my hands dirty and mix my own paints. The only thing you require to create my work is lots of various materials (doesn't have to be expensive, but I enjoy mixing media), a very loose hand, and the courage to apply paint layers and begin at the beginning."
