Cult Classic tells the story of Lola who is a journalist in New York who, though she's recently engaged, feels an unease in her relationship. In the course of a night, she bumps into one of her ex-boyfriends, then another. Lola is soon to realize that a cult governed by her former boss intentionally putting the exes of these men within her path as part of an investigation. The story that follows is an entertaining and thought-provoking story about reliving the past and, maybe getting over it.

Sloane isn't able to pinpoint an exact "aha" moment that shaped the idea behind the novel however, her personal experiences of wellness culture and modern-day dating informed the manuscript. "I believe that everyone who reads this is their own wellness and dating experts in the present," she says. "We're completely absorbed by these subjects, they appear as satire within the novels."

Sloane did some specific research on cults to ensure that the details just the way she wanted them. "I required manifestos or documents from within, so I could borrow from the language to make a comedic point," Sloane says.
