Nicole Mueller is a San Francisco-based visual artist. Her works include large-scale painting, murals, and installations which mimic the effect from stained glass. Motivated by processes the abstract pieces are vibrant and saturated. They are constructed with layers of collage-like shapes. Her art explores the variety of color, the state in flux, dichotomies inside painting, the fundamental transition of being, and the boundary between outside and inside, the intangible and tangible.
My background
I'm primarily a painter, who is a full-time artist in San Francisco, California.
My background also includes mural painting, installation work, as well as being involved in arts administration as well as career advancement.
I took art classes in the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore in Maryland, where I resided for many years prior to moving to the west coast.
A large portion of my work and mission involves hosting Beyond the Studio with fellow artist Amanda Adams, a podcast designed to promote awareness of the art industry by interviewing other working modern artists on their professional pathways.
About my fashion
Most of what I do is intuitive that is driven by process. abstract and highly saturated built with color and layers of collage-like patterns.
I make large-scale paintings with light-activated glass installations that mimic the effects of stained glass, and murals. Within this work I'm exploring dichotomies and states of flux, and the threshold between external and interior, and both tangible and intangible.
What is the secret to creating my work
I'm of the opinion that showing up consistently to your work is essential. For me, developing a studio practice and setting myself goals to continue moving forward helped me prioritize my time when life gets in my way. Also, taking the time to slow down and rest or take breaks (for a day up to a month or even longer).
