Here's what you need from an App for Conferences in 2024 (+ 8 Choices) |

Aug 30, 2024

This year, several participants of our Mighty Team went to Craft and Commerce ConvertKit's annual event in Boise, Idaho. For us, the most memorable part was using the app for conference!

The demand for apps at events is growing, with over 72% of event organizers agreeing that an app was vital in the successful run of a recent conference. According to G2's study, the majority of conference organizers intend to use a conference app for things like check-ins, AI and QR codes and even virtual reality experiences.

In this piece this article, we'll draw on both our knowledge and experiences to discuss what makes a great conference app. We'll cover:

  • What is the best conference application.
  • How do you choose the best mobile conference application.
  • 10.10 of the top conferences apps available.

What exactly is a conference application?

Conference apps provide an immersive experience similar to the live event or a hybrid. First versions of conference apps were basically calendars for conferences that were mobile. Since the development of technology, conference apps have evolved to include more features that serve the members - things like ticketing, member management, and better interactive scheduling.

However, a contemporary conference application extends beyond an easy schedule. We can use tech to make conferences better. More enjoyable. More profitable.

Conference apps can mean software that:

  • Helps attendees find and make life-changing friends.
  • allows attendees to develop content and add to the event.
  • handles payment, registrations, and tickets.
  • You can deliver the conference using the own app with your logo.

What we learned by attending a conference through our application

Boise, Idaho was baking under the summer heat. And as the conference got started, we felt the energy. It was a great conference with amazing presenters such as Ali Abdaal and Cody Sanchez as well as a talk about establishing a million-dollar community from our own CEO-Gina Bianchini.

Conference App - CK

The magic of the event came from an amazing lineup of speakers, a stunning location, and of course 300incredible creators that came together to create the event. The list goes on. This is what every conference needs.

However, behind the scenes, there was something else going on:

  • Chat in the conference app was blowing up with "strategic selfies" (speaker John Meese suggested that we use the pictures")
  • Participants were organizing, posting, and hosting their own amazing meetups for things like white-water rafting and running or the sunrise canyon hike (for those who are able to manage the early morning wake awake).
  • Creators were sharing what they'd been up to, or soliciting help, and the mobile conference app was blowing over with replies!
  • While walking around the Boise, you'll see young people enjoying lunch at some of Boise's great restaurants (and it's likely that this contained potatoes in some way).

    The app made this possible!

The conference application wasn't just used to manage ticketing and scheduling. It was an exciting, virtual conference that happened alongside the real one. It was clear that the app was loaded with conference information and was extremely helpful!

However, it was those who attended that made the conference application come alive by sharing stories, photos asking for help and suggestions for all kinds of business-related ideas, from gluten-free eateries within Boise.

What made it work so well. This is what you need to seek out when using a conference application.

What should you look for in conference apps

  • An agenda for conferences (obviously) however, you can also access RSVPs as well as session participation within the app.
  • Fantastic communication tool to use for messaging and the emailing of participants  as well as handling support or questions.
  • Instruments to connect participants with each other: eg, rich profiles, social links and chat as well as messages. The real people magic in a conference app comes when attendees are able to meet each other-virtual connections that spill into actual life.
  • Features for unleashing attendee creativity. Let attendees make content, upload images, write short or long-form content, share videos, or ask questions. If the interaction happens in the app-without you having to do anything, it can increase the value of your conference. The momentum will keep up until the next event.
  • Tickets, payment, and registration. If your application supports the backend of your event, ensure you can collect payments as well as track lists of members and then connect the members following.
  • Easy building hosting, hosting, and maintaining --it doesn't require a whole team to create an application for conferences off the ground and in good shape.

One of our favorite things which worked with the app

Natalie Paramenter

When we consider how we made our mobile-based conference app work Here's our favorite part of the app:

  • Participants organically posted their notes from sessions in the dedicated discussion feeds.
  • Live icebreakers that got participants using the app to meet people offline (ie. "Find someone who's the same height as you and snap a photo of them ).
  • Local Boiseans (is it true?) hosting meet-ups in conjunction with some of their best local grub spots and outings. (The Karaoke session was the highlight. )
  • A chat in the background prior to, during and after the conference that keeps on giving. For example, Natalie Parmenter (the creator of Primary Focus), gave the shoutout above following the help of fellow participants to in making her debut a hit!
  • ConvertKit has opened recording and studio spaces for people to drop by and create content. (If you're ever in Boise and want to make a reservation, you can set an appointment to visit and use them for free! )
