We asked Titika about her secret for making her black and white photographs

"My name is Titika Rotkjaer, I'm an artist from Copenhagen, Denmark. After studies in communication in Roskilde University, Denmark, I moved to Norway to further my studies in visual art, first at Oslo National Academy of the Arts then in Bergen, where I finished my study in visual arts through the Bergen Academy of Art and Design with a MA in Textile Art. I have no formal education in photography. My understanding of editing and photography is derived from my ongoing education on my own.

Would you like to learn more about my style? Would I like to discuss style instead? I don't think of style... Telling stories from a poetic and personal perspective In each photograph I concentrate in determining mood, expression and the mood. Making my pictures appear is a procedure. It is my goal to always refine and clarify the expression. Sometimes , I edit old photos if I gain new knowledge that enables me to come closer to the expression I wanted to create.

The key to making my mysterious photographies ...? For the majority of my photos that I have created over the past four years - I have been looking at the complexity and sense of self and have a particular interest in connecting inner and outer realities. Many of my images however, not all are constructed digitally of several images (all obviously were taken by myself).

My method usually starts with an intrigue or interest in exploring a topic or an array of emotions. I shoot, write notes and read to gain more knowledge, and shoot again. Making use of the photos often inspires me to make an original image out of several other. I work experimentally, subjectively, and intuitively with the theme to let my photographs take shape. There isn't an accurate vision of the final product to my eye, and after that, I shoot the components to build the picture."
