"Art as Escapism" The CreativeMindClass Blog

I'm originally of Venezuela. I grew up in a city which was extremely tropical, surrounded by hills and palm trees. However, I sadly wasn't really allowed to explore my environment fully (partly because of my parents' overprotection and also due to all the anxieties in my country). The majority of my time was spent watching the television and reading became my preferred means of entertainment as well as drawing! I spent so much time drawing my most loved characters from anime, along with my family, friends and pets that I was not allowed to keep, costumes, and all kinds of other things.

It was mostly a pastime, and I was somewhat certain that I would never extend beyond Venezuela. My family decided then to move to the UK that changed everything for me. When I was a teenager I had finally been granted the freedom to explore places by myself and think about goals I wanted to do.

My fascination with characters and storytelling inspired me to look up comics which, then brought me into illustration. The pieces all were put together. After a couple of years of studies (and many hours of work) I'm now freelance as an illustrator based in London.

My style is unique, playful and, sometimes, a bit messy (in an excellent manner!). It's not always complicated, but often, very intricate. However, every illustration has either a human being, an animal, or even a stunning piece of nature. Each illustration I have seen makes up the same global.

To me, the most important factor is having fun with it. It's simple to imagine the things that fascinated me in my early years as a child: vivid shades, as well as charming characters, hilarious situations, and little bits of information that could be lost in. The goal of my work is to capture all of these aspects in my designs as I can. If I am able to inspire viewers to feel excited or happy, or think that they've discovered something that is new that's a good sign. I've achieved the goal I have set for myself.

"Another important element I'm seeking is a sense of humor. It was apparent over time that I'm likely not the right artist to create intricate or abstract art however, I'm pretty good at creating something lighthearted that can bring smiles to people's face. My strengths are what I am working on currently."
