Adventurous digital illustrations - CreativeMindClass Blog
My background
My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I was born in Russia.
I studied in Moscow however, I also lived out in the country.
It was cold and there was no hot water, the house was heated by a furnace, and the neighbors raised cows and goats. Wonderful times! Besides nature and bicycles, I was obsessed with animation. All my peers grew up and stopped liking cartoons. But I did contrary! I realized that this could be my preferred thing to do. That's how I got into the film academy located in Moscow, Russia.
My personal style
I would like my artwork to always evoke some very soulful emotions. As if you are sitting by the fireplace after your day or hiking in the mountains.
My procedure
I love drawing. It has something in common with meditation. If I'm in the process of working I can see it getting dark, and I'll become hungry, but nothing really affects me while working.
Presently, I'm employed both in the illustration industry as well as animation... Also, I even design board games. I truly love my job.
I've always been drawing often. But it started to look better after I completed my studies. As I decided what and how I draw.
My suggestion to skeptical visual artists
Consider what you enjoy and love about the thing you like about it. Make an effort to stop listening to others when you don't like what they do. All will be well! And there will be people who are going to love what you do.
My technique
I draw almost everything on my iPad in Procreate. Sometimes I finish an item using Photoshop.
The iPad has changed my lifestyle. Now I work in bed, in cafes, libraries. When I pick a location to work, I move around, I don't just sit at my desk. Therefore, the iPad is an amazing tool which combines traditional drawing with drawing on computers.
The iPad has great brush brushes. For example, I got watercolor brushes from "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". Every time I use them, I am ecstatic. I try them. They're as close to real watercolors as possible.
A few words about the way I conduct my work
It is my goal to create an approximate outline of objects. Since I find hard lines harsh and cold.
Sometimes I turn my shadows cold and bluish by using the multiplier setting. Sometimes I use overlay. However, I'm not sure very much.
Procreate offers some excellent blur options, check the settings! There are several kinds of them, which are very effective. The majority of the time, I do with traditional tools on paper or canvas.
I'm still searching, still researching my subject matter as well as trying to come closer to the image I like by making personal projects.
The Teriberka series. Teriberka series
I did after traveling there (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. It was a town that built ships to catch a lot of fish. It's now a bit of a ghost town.
It is a beautiful image. Please google it! It's beautiful.
I always like the North.
I am a fan of the animals, the people, the millions of shades of the moss. Small berries are packed with nutrients, and are more nutritious than the tropical fruit. This is quite impressive.
Northern cliffs look like the skin of huge elephants! These are the feelings that I attempted to convey through the photos.
Concerning the Tiny Things series
The idea came to my thoughts after I had become exhausted of my job, the flu as well as the city.
I bought a macro lens and went to the woods. What a stunning beauty lay beneath my feet! Every inch of nature was stunning. It gave me lots of energy to create. That's how this idea came to be.
Whatever happens no matter what happens, there's a wonder right under the feet!
How can I plan my work time
The most difficult thing to do is keep your time and sleep in check, to refuse proposals that aren't suitable. or to do many tasks and try to survive without getting tired of doing what you love. All this I am still trying to master.
Concerning the blocks to creativity
The hard aspect is actually the procedure itself Sometimes it fails to work out. It's not what I like about the outcome. So you can suffer for eight hours, get frustrated. And then a couple of days later, you can redo it in an hour and the result looks perfect. What's that? Magic.
This is my little piece of advice on how to overcome creativity blocks
When there is some kind of task - do not take a moment to draw (if it's possible). Allow your mind to think on the side while engaged in other activities. This is how I believe the best solutions come.
What do I think of my work
If I was to evaluate my own work , I would never give myself an "excellent". It's extremely exhausting and makes me do my best to make myself miserable. On the other hand, it drives me forward.
Drawing can be like an adventure!
Tickets are available to another country. You have a knowledge of it from Google but something might surprise you right on the spot. So far, it seems as if it would be a great adventure for me.
There are other works by Ekaterina on her website and look out for the next installment of this show through Instagram , Artstation or Behance.
