1. Personalize your new member's experience

Let's chat about the most important point in a community member's journey the first couple of minutes, hours and days within a community.

This is the most terrifying part for your new member. You're like the first student at school. It seems that everyone else knows each other and knows how things are going, and it can be intimidating to be the first to get involved.

You need to create to provide an amazing first-time member experience. It is important to ensure that everyone in your community knows how and where to get started. The goal is to get them into discussions and make them feel comfortable to show them where the opportunities are and what's possible, and let them know that you are there to support them.

In an online social network This can be accomplished by creating an amazing digital new member experience.

In the example of a Mighty Network, we created the checklist for new members that you are able to customize and create your personal. Each new member is shown this, and it walks them through the steps of making their profile public and saying hi to the community or asking their first question, or RSVPing for their first live events.

3. Newsletter updates

Okay, so as you contemplate your approach to community engagement consider the function that email can play.

One of the benefits that a great community platform, and especially one that comes with an app that is beautiful and built-in and members don't need to receive emails about every issue. You should have updates from their community platform (and the best platforms will allow them to personalize the notifications). ).

This gives you the option to think strategically about how you use email. There is no need for emailing your members every single day. But you can email updates, or let people know about the upcoming events. If users have been absent from the platform for a while, it can be a good strategy to bring them to the platform.

And when life gets hectic, as it will every week, an update of the events in your community can help people stay connected and prepare them to jump into the next round of activities.

4. Play with Incorporate

Communities should be fun. There are times when we show the tendency to become overly serious, particularly when people are paying for community membership. It is possible that you are feeling the stress of trying to provide an extremely serious and professional service that is... "professional. "

There's a time and suitable place to do that. And we're not saying that you shouldn't be professional.

But being "professional" does not necessarily mean that you have to be serious at all times. A great community should also include a fun element. If you can keep your members laughing together, connecting over the vulnerability of having fun and being playful and playful, you'll be creating great experiences for members.

You can try incorporating fun activities. An online game show. Karaoke. Events that take your group out of the serious and build engagement with fun. If you are looking for an event idea that is fun and engaging We have an extensive list below.

5. Choose your ideal Member and Big Purpose

It's something we suggest doing at the planning stage of your community during Community Design(tm). But even if you skipped it during the planning phase there's no reason not to begin these exercise right now.

Every community has two requirements. The first is that it needs an Ideal Member. The key is to identify who your community is for. Be as specific as possible about these members; know what they're like, their hopes and their dreams as well as what they are passionate about.

If you develop a particular Ideal Memberfor your community, it can aid in the engagement of your community. Since instead of throwing objects on the ground to see the results, you'll be able to concentrate on helping others.
Ideal member to solve the issue they face. Ideal Member is a way for members that show up and take part.

The other part is to create what we refer to as the Big Purpose. The Big Purpose of your organization outlines what your community is for, and what you will assist them in doing. The format is as follows.

6. Moderate that one thing

Being a great member of your community doesn't only revolve around what's happening within your local community. One of the main reasons is the fact that there are certain items that your community should not have.

That's where a solid community moderation approach comes in.

The members of your community should feel secure in the community. They need to know they will not be bullied or victimized. It is important to trust that they won't be exposed to posts that are racist, sexist homophobic, racist, or any other form of discrimination.

In order to build a community in which residents feel safe You must develop the right moderation strategies. Let your members know what expectations they should be following, and remind these often. Be sure to make use of the moderator tools available within your community platform to flag or block offending content. And think about choosing some of your most engaged, loyal members to help to complete the job of moderating.

Moderation isn't something that is very exciting from the beginning. Nobody gets their thrills from taking a seat and writing down guidelines.

But trust us, the mental security of your community members is worth it. When people feel secure and secure, they're more likely to engage.

7. Create rituals

Imagine that you can travel back in time to those human settlements that were in existence thousands of years back. The time when our forefathers gathered on campfires. What is it that made those communities stick in their bonds?

One of the main factors in communal bonding was the strength of rituals. Rituals served to signify belonging in the community. They were used for major life transformations, like the rituals that marked the transition between being a child and being an adult. They were also used to commemorate the passing of time, the weeks, months, and even years.

Your community can benefit from the importance of rituals as well. When you are navigating your life as a member of your community be aware of the moments that deserve to be performed in a ritual. Maybe it's something you tried with new members and you'd like to continue doing for everyone - like our new member experience that mentioned above. Maybe once a year you hold a particular type of community event, something everybody looks forward to. Maybe it's just an annual community party.

EVENTS

In creating these events by naming the moments and making them unique it is creating rituals. It's something we have done for centuries, which makes rituals a powerful instrument for community involvement.

8. Ask questions

When we've studied the communities we've found one factor every time that has created the sense of engagement. There's no secret about it.

The key is...questions!

Questions inspire members. They ask questions that have something to do with them. They force them to draw from their personal experience and knowledge, something everyone is enthusiastic about. In short, questions might be the ultimate secret to the engagement of your members.

In fact, we care about asking questions that a while back we created this awesome list of 1,000 questions for discussion you can use to get your community talking. Download it for free here.

9. Go on quests

Another thing we've put into our game that we're overjoyed about. Quests. Like knights from the past they take the community in a quest. We offer a complete and free training on creating quests within Our Mighty Community too!

10. Unscript

This is a second tip to help you get into the mind-blowing power of community engagement. Are you ready?

Unscript.

As community managers, it is tempting to manage all things. It is tempting to scrub everything. In order to make everything appear flawless. But ask anybody who's spent any time in a community and they'll tell you that the most effective moments tend to be the ones nobody expects. The unscripted ones.

This could be the live stream where the guest isn't allowed to participate and the resultant discussion end with more power than that session would have been. This could be the time where a community member breaks to tears as you watch the others jump into support and cheer the person.

It's obvious that there's nothing you can plan to include unscripted scenes. That would defeat the purpose.

Do however create the space and time with each other in ways that don't seem to be completely scripted. And be prepared to watch the magic happen.

11. Empower your best people

The word "community" implies, should not be managed on its own. The leadership of a community isn't a requirement on its own either.

One of the keys for a successful community engagement strategy is to draw people in rather than trying to make it an all-person event. It might mean formally hiring a community manager. It is usually just giving members the tools they need to be in the community.

You can do this with programs like the Ambassador Program that offers members rewards to invite new members. Also, you could promote the best of your members to become co-hosts or moderators. This could be unpaid or paid positions You may also be shocked to discover those who are invested in your community love having the chance to assume the role of a leader and dig deeper.

Are you ready to begin?

We hope these tips have you excited to bring an exciting new dimension to your community. Keep in mind that having thousands of members doesn't make much difference if they aren't engaged. Using these tips will help you bring members to your community and keep them there. It has been proven time and time again that people join communities to benefit from the courses, but people remain in the community for a long time because of the relationships they build there.
